Care
If wood products are taken care of properly they will serve you and your family for generations. Below are some general tips to keep your Oakenwell products looking nice and lasting lifetimes.
- Do not microwave any wood products
- Do not put any wood products in the dishwasher
- Do not let your product sit in direct sunlight or extreme heat for extended periods of time - sunlight and heat can change the wood's coloration, shine, and shape
- Very small amounts of soap should be used to clean wood products
- If you need to run your wood products under water, be sure to dry them quickly
- Do not let your wood items be submerged under water for any period of time - they could absorb enough water to warp and crack
- The less water you need to use, the longer your items can go without a wood butter refresher
- If your wood products are beginning to dull or lose their luster, use a lint free cloth and any food safe oil and/or wax to rub into the grain and refresh the wood
Here are some specific wood care instructions for specific Oakenwell products:
Bowls: Wipe clean with a damp, soft towel. Dry quickly. Not microwave or dishwasher safe. Keep out of direct sunlight and extreme heat. Refresh with mineral oil and wax occasionally.
Vases: Wipe clean with a damp soft towel. Dry quickly. Vases are for dry stems only unless glass/plastic insert is present. Keep out of direct sunlight and extreme heat. Refresh with mineral oil and wax occasionally.
Honey Dippers: Rinse grooves in warm water and towel dry. Keep out of direct sunlight and extreme heat. Refresh with mineral oil and wax occasionally.
Cutting Boards/Serving Trays: Wipe or lightly rinse to clean. Do not submerge in water. Not dishwasher or microwave safe. Supply a barrier if serving/cutting extremely hot foods. Keep out of direct sunlight and extreme heat. Refresh with mineral oil and wax occasionally. If surface begins to hold many unsightly knife marks, it can be lightly sanded and a layer of mineral oil and wax can be applied to refresh.
